With a 6% commission on a 500K home, thats 30K, and some large part of that you could save by becoming your own realtor. With the ridiculous expense of owning a home in any urban area of California, it only makes sense to become a realtor, just to save the expense of hiring someone else. I was able to acquire my realtor license for less than $1000, so selling a house for $500,000 would more than pay that back and save me significant closing costs.
