I did catch the Fast Money show recently with Louise Yamada and when asked where the bottom was on the S&P 500, she said around 400-600.

I've done similar analysis (before she made this statement), and looking at things from many different angles, I do agree with the 400 to 600 assessment, especially if the market breaks below 768.

During market panics, technical analysis takes over, and fundamentals are pushed to the side.

Here's my analysis which matches the S&P 500 bottom of 400 to 600 prediction of Chartist Louise Yamada

Guy.. For the record, she was talking downturn late 2007. She never really forecasts the levels. She tends to come out with comments such as 'If the DOW drops below 10,000, then the next level is 7100' - (actual numbers not supplied).

Also, although she is considered a technician, she really begins her view with fundamentals. (I do have to say that her writing style is a tad dry, but she obviously enjoys here field.)

You can Google her for web-videos. She has been on Indian/Pakistani TV more often than the US and although always kind of 'chirpy' she doesn't pull any punches.

My feeling about market analysis is that even a blind squirrel can get a nut once in a while. There is nothing special about Yamada or anyone else. I don't remember her beating her chest in late, 2007 saying stocks are going to 600.

For my own part, I stated all of quarter 4 in 2007 that stocks were forming a "top of significance". I knew we were headed into a bear market (confirmed in Dec 07) but little did I know that we would be at this current juncture. Furthermore, capitalizing on these calls is a lot harder than making the call as you seem to mention regarding Peter Schiff.
