....are a direct parallel to how US Congress works versus UK Parliament: here, people give 2 minute speeches before voting to 90% empty Congressional hall with no challenges - there, even the Prime Minister stands in a room without prepared remarks, and has to answer critics/questions and think on his feet in an engaging atmosphere of direct confrontation.
This is not even the UK Parliament ... this appears to be the Eurozone Parliament... nice of Hannan to travel to it, to deliver the smackdown to Gordon Brown. 3 Minutes that a fiscal conservative would enjoy...(if you are American just take the figures Hannan quotes and double or triple them for our situation) I'm trying to imagine how many American politicians could even think or deliver such a commentary... can't get past one hand of fingers.

Why is Daniel Hannan not the Prime Minister? Oh yes, many people simply can't handle the truth.
They cut off the clip early but if it was played for another 10 seconds I believe Gordon Brown's retort was "thank you, may I have another"

British Parlimentary debate is what I suspect our forefather's congressional debates were like. We have devolved into overly complex issues being decided by people that cannot understand them and really aren't provided the time to do so, back room deals and earmarks.
Still watch the British. Better entertainment than anything we have. I really do miss Tony Blair. That guy was lightning fast in a debate. So well prepared and quick witted. I never saw anyone corner him. Really don't understand how he became George Bush's lapdog.... Oh well.
